Introduction
Within the landscape of Vietnam’s corporate development, there remains an unfilled gap defined by governance standards, long-term thinking, and the connection between academia, training, and practice.
There are individuals who work quietly each day to narrow that gap – not only through knowledge, but through a steadfast belief: governance is not merely about power, but about the responsibility to shape the future.
Pursuant to the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs under Decision No. 04/QĐ-BNV dated January 5, 2022, approving the establishment of the Vietnam Independent Directors Association (VNIDA), on April 28, 2022, VNIDA successfully convened its First National Congress and officially introduced the Association’s founding members.
This was a significant milestone, marking an important turning point for all members who share common goals, vision, and a commitment to advancing the Association’s mission.
Mr. Nguyen Sinh Dung Thang, Chairman of the Presidium, presided over the opening session, delivered the opening remarks, introduced delegates, and chaired the Congress proceedings.

Attending the Congress were invited guests including Mr. Ta Tan, Deputy Director General, Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, Ministry of Home Affairs; Mr. Tran Minh Tan, Officer, Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, Ministry of Home Affairs, together with nearly 100 delegates participating both in person and online, representing members who have accompanied and supported the Association since its early establishment.
At the Congress, 100% of delegates met the eligibility requirements to participate in direct voting in accordance with the Congress regulations. The VNIDA Congress for the 2022–2027 term agreed to operate under the principles of democratic centralism, majority-based decision-making, with all matters openly discussed prior to resolutions being adopted.
VNIDA convened the Congress
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and in line with its mission to promote best practices in corporate governance, VNIDA aims to enhance the value of independent directors and the effectiveness of boards of directors through connection, training, experience sharing, and the protection of members’ interests, thereby strengthening professionalism, independence, transparency, and integrity.
VNIDA defined its strategic direction for the 2022–2027 term as consolidating organizational structures, establishing regulations for specialized committees, and implementing concrete activities to stabilize and strongly promote the Association’s development. The focus is on membership development, network building, capacity building, and training to support transparency and independence in enterprises, while enhancing the Association’s standing within Vietnam’s business community.
Through a transparent, democratic, and open election process, 100% of delegates agreed to elect the Association’s leadership bodies, including 25 members of the Executive Committee and 3 members of the Inspection Committee.
